Overview
The main objective of the programme is to produce graduates who have skills and knowledge in various areas of psychology. By the end of the programme the graduates should be able to achieve the following objectives:
2.1 Apply psychological knowledge and skills to a variety of psychological issues.
2.2 Conduct basic research in psychology.
2.3 Apply psychological tests in research and diagnosis.
2.4 Pursue post graduate studies in psychology.
Exams Regulations
The University OF Nairobi Faculty of Arts regulations shall apply
A candidate shall be allowed to sit the end of semester examinations ONLY
when he/she has attended at least two-thirds of the lectures
All units shall be examined during the semester in which they are taken
Each taught unit shall be assessed through Continuous Assessment Tests (30%) and end of semester examination (70%).
The pass mark in each unit shall be 40%.
* 5.5 A candidate who fails to score 40% in any unit may on the recommendation
of senate be allowed to take a supplementary examination at a time set by
the University Senate.
* 5.6 A candidate who fails to sit the examination on medical or other justifiable
grounds shall be allowed to sit special examinations at a time approved by
Senate.
Structure
The University of Nairobi, Faculty of Arts Regulations shall apply.
Students will select and register for units in Psychology as follows.
One major specialization - 24 units
Double Major - 16 units
Minor - 12 units
Candidate shall take a minimum of two units and a maximum of seven units
per semester.
Each course/unit shall extend for 45 hours per semester
The programme shall extend over a period not exceeding 22 semesters of 15
weeks each.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted for the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a candidate should have the
following minimum qualifications:
- KCSE mean grade C+ or equivalent
- KCSE mean grade C- or equivalent plus a Certificate and Diploma.
- 0 Level Division II or equivalent plus a Diploma
- 0 Level Division III or equivalent plus a Certificate and Diploma.
- 0 Level Division III or equivalent plus a three-year Diploma from a recognized post secondary Institution for admissions to Bachelor of Education
- Diploma from University of Nairobi or other recognized institutions and an aggregate of C in KCSE or equivalent.
- A Level with two principal passes, IB or equivalent in relevant subjects
- CPA II/CPSII/CIPS or equivalent and should have attained an aggregate of C in KCSE or 0 Level Division III
- P1 from a two-year post secondary training institution for entry in Bachelor of Education.
- Higher National Diploma in relevant fields and should have attained an aggregate of C in KCSE.
- Degree from a recognized University
- Equivalent qualifications to the above from institutions recognized by Senate.
